WHAT IS THIS WEBSITE?

Even if you were born in a small town, if your family does not come from farmers, every small bird is a sparrow. Until one day, for whatever reason, you realize its not that simple.

Not all birds are sparrows!

THE quiet NATURALIST
started as a school project of one of the inhabitants of the house and 10 years later it has transformed into a web page which, as we said above, only aims to show us that we are surrounded by a whole world of animals and critters that, on most occasions, we don't know the name of.

WE ARE NEOPHYTS IN THIS WORLD OF NATURE; ANY COMMENTS OR CORRECTIONS WILL BE WELCOME!!
In fact, none of the backyard inhabitants (neither the people nor the animals, as far as we know) are naturalists or anything like that. That school work and this website have served us to investigate and learn about the fauna that lives with us and to realize, a little ashamed, that we are able to live with our backs to the greatness of a world that is getting harder to preserve.

OUR WEAPONS

We used the cameras you see in the photo: two reflex (Canon EOS 70D and EOS 80D) with Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 IS II USM lenses, Canon 18-200mm, f/1:3.5-5.6 and Tamron 18-200mm, f/3.5-6.3. Also a Canon PowerShot SD870 28-105mm, f/2.8-5.8 compact camera.

We didn't use any flash other than the built-in cameras´.

When you find this image, it means that we have seen the animal in question but it has not yet been kind enough to be photographed... With this image, this page will look like a trading card album waiting to be completed!
